NISER is autonomous institution under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Govt. of India, established with the mandate of becoming a Center of Excellence in science education and research in basic sciences. The MSc degrees of NISER are awarded by Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) of DAE.

CEBS is an autonomous institution jointly under DAE & University of Mumbai (UM) and is located at Vidyanagri campus of UM. The BSc-MSc degrees at CEBS is awarded  by the UM.

Eligibility criteria for admission in NEST 2023

Candidates must qualify all four eligibility criteria listed below:

§  Candidates in the Unreserved and OBC categories must have been born on or after August 01, 2003. The age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ ST/ Divyangjan candidates.

§  Class XII qualifying examination must have passed in either 2021 or 2022. Candidates appearing in 2023 are also eligible. (Where only Letter Grade is given by the Board, a certificate from the Board specifying equivalent percentage marks will be required. In the absence of such a certificate the decision of the respective Admission Committees will be final.)

§  At least 60% marks in aggregate (or equivalent grade) in Class XII examination from any recognized Board in India. For Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates and for Divyangjan candidates, the minimum requirement is 55%.

§  Candidate should secure a position in the NEST 2023 merit list.

Important Information:

Date of Examination: June 24 (Sunday), in around 120 towns/cities in all over India.

Application Portal Opens: February 27, 2023 (www.nestexam.in)

And Closes: May 17, 2023

Duration of Examination: 3½ hours, (Session I: 09:00 – 12:30 and Session-II: 14:30 – 18:00)

Mode of Examination: Online (computer based) exam.

The questions will be of objective type, designed to test candidate’s subject comprehension and analytic ability. There will be 4 sections containing questions from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics respectively. Only the best 3 subject scores will be considered for merit list preparation. The online application will begin on February 27, 2023(Monday).

Important notice: The SMAS score of the best three subject scores from four subjects will be considered for the merit list preparation for NEST 2023 (for both NISER and CEBS). It was different in NEST2022, where the SMAS of all four subjects were considered for preparing the NISER merit list.
